Our Highs, Lows, and Memorable Moments of 2024 as We Begin 2025

In 2024 I used the “big ass calendar” for a yearly visual for bookings - you can get yours here.

Man, what a year! I’ll be honest…2024 did not get off to the best start for me and my business. If you had told me where it would have ended up though I wouldn’t have believed you. I am SO grateful for my clients who have supported my small business and continue to do so by repeatedly booking my services and referring my company to their friends and family. I am also grateful that this is my career (pinch me!) and that I can pursue my passion while helping others embrace it too - that is - organized living. I’d like to share the ups and downs that Organized by Meg navigated in 2024 and what I see in store for 2025.

MY Happiest Highlights of 2024

The past year has been wild for me as a business owner. Once I overcame some struggles, I hit my six figure income goal, continued to work with my small team (that I envisioned and created at the end of the prior year), still worked one-on-one with clients as a decluttering coach, and actually surpassed the number of clients I wanted to serve in 2024! All of this while still delivering the high level of service and personal detail I am known for (even obtaining over 25 new five-star google reviews)! I contributed to articles for Redfin, The Spruce, and The Scout Guide. I was featured on other blogs and spoke on podcasts to share my expertise on organizing. I celebrated four years in business and ended the year with the purchase of my first commercial van - a dream I had since I first created Organized by Meg. To me, the van represents years of hard work and gives me the ability to be more efficient on the job and in my daily life.

With my awesome team, we worked over 1,100 hours in 2024, helping 40 clients declutter and organize over 170 spaces in their homes. I achieved my prior year’s goals of securing and servicing ongoing maintenance clients, started booking resets for past clients and worked on more indoor holiday decor setups (I love assembling Christmas trees).

I was able to add a virtual assistant to my team by the end of 2025 after realizing I was ready for some more administrative help. I really prefer to be on the job each day, so outsourcing more of the behind-the-scenes admin work helps me not work at my desk until midnight each night (although I still find reasons to do so because there are still parts of the admin I love or need to do myself).

One of the more interesting projects I worked on in 2024 was for Tieghan Gerard at Half Baked Harvest - a well known cookbook author who is renovating her cooking and filming studio and had to transition to working in her own home for the time being. Her family is the sweetest; her dad even showed my kids how to milk a goat since they were there helping me on the summer job.

Another favorite project was volunteering at my younger son’s school. His second grade teachers needed their workroom decluttered and organized and all the teachers were so grateful - we also loved seeing the kids popping in to see the transformation!

The rest of our projects were full of decluttering, organizing and unpacking kitchens, closets, mudrooms, basements and many more spaces. We delivered so many beautiful yet functional solutions to busy families in towns like Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Greenwood Village, Cherry Creek, Castle Rock and Denver.

I formed so many new relationships and helped a few clients navigate some difficult decluttering sessions which sometimes bring on tears. I mostly help busy professional women with families, but I also love to help older women and grandmothers, who know what they want out of their house (and don’t want to spend the time doing it) and even some men who felt it was time to create a better space for themselves at home. It’s all really satisfying work!

So proud to have bought my first commercial van from AutoNation Ford in Littleton, CO.

I had the van wrapped by Advanced Auto Industries in Highlands Ranch, CO.

my Most Serious Struggles of 2024

Rewind to the beginning of the year - and it was near crickets for me from January until March and I was pretty devastated about it. I wasn’t giving myself the grace I needed while being patient in the rebuilding of my business since my move to Colorado and relaunch in 2022. I did hear from many other organizers in the industry just how slow things were going for them too - but that didn’t help my mindset at the time. Bottom line was I wasn’t making the money I needed to make, I hadn’t anticipated such a prolonged slow period, and I seriously considered going back to the corporate world (I am a former accountant). It literally brought me to tears.

So I did some serious soul searching and realized I could either quit, take a temporary job in accounting, or double down on all the efforts I had already been making in building my business. And I chose to double down. Not only did I commit to keep going but I set a six figure financial goal. It seemed like once I changed my mindset, business turned around. And from that moment, it didn’t slow down at all.

I still wasn’t thinking “abundance” at that point - still taking a few clients that were waving red flags in my face. But, I always try to remember that I have to try a lot of things to really figure out what I like and don’t like doing and who I like doing it for. It turns out I don’t have to take jobs that aren’t a great fit but I can still help by referring clients to my colleagues who may be better suited for the work. I never regret projects that don’t go as smoothly as I would like, because I learn from each and every experience.

That being said, I did oftentimes bite off a bit more than I could chew - for the sake of saying “yes” to everything - and worried about burning out by the end (which I did in my prior career). So even though I did reach my goals in the end, I definitely took stock of what was actually sustainable for me in the future. Realizing that I was no longer able to keep up with the number of things a solopreneur needs to do led me to finally hire a virtual assistant and set some personal rules for scheduling in 2025. Just like my clients, I accept that outside help is necessary to keep things running smoothly and focus on the bigger things that matter to me in my business (and life).

I love my team!

MY Personal Plans & Goals for 2025

I bet on myself in 2024 and it paid off, leaving me feeling proud and confident, yet knowing I can’t ever take my foot off the gas. If I have learned one thing in business it is to expect the unexpected - which is both terrifying and exhilarating :)

My goals for Organized by Meg in 2025 include helping another 40 or more families organize their homes, to be able to reach my bigger goal of 100+ families by the end of 2025 (cumulative for OBM since starting in 2019). So far we have helped over 70 families get over 330 spaces in their homes decluttered, organized and unpacked. I love my repeat clients who want to move on to additional spaces to tackle in their homes and I also really enjoy periodic “resets” for my clients who need just a tweak. Delivering beautiful, functional and efficient results that leave clients referring us to others is what I strive for.

Some other goals I have for 2025 include looking at ways to offer clients my knowledge and expertise in a way that they can tackle projects on their own - such as through digital products like courses. I love to learn and do things right the first time without wasting time and money, so I’ll be taking a course on how to create a course and see if it’s a good fit for my business to supplement our in-home services.

While I love to set financial goals, I never got into this business to make a million dollars (although I wouldn’t mind it, obviously). I do it because I love the work and want to encourage as many people as I can to embrace organized living as a way to simplify their everyday lives. Life is too short to be managing too much meaningless stuff in our homes and a jam-packed calendar full of more to-do’s than fun.

On a personal note, I am always looking at how I can simplify my own life. I cut out alcohol two years ago, making me more productive (and healthier) than ever, I deleted my Facebook account weeks ago (because I hate it) and I’m currently working on figuring out the rest of my social media usage as I continue to audit my time in ways that truly help me focus on the way I want to live and feel in my everyday life (and mindless scrolling is not what I want to be doing). I have started saying “no” to more things that don’t align with my goals.

From a clutter perspective, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t move something in my own home to the trash or donation bin. Consistently being mindful of what comes into my house and evaluating what stays is the only way I can keep up with a busy lifestyle. And this is exactly what I tell my clients too.
